But if you still use Dot TK domains for your blog or personal website then read this reason you don’t use Dot TK domains. This article explains every reason which was experienced by me.

Why You Don’t Use Dot TK Domain

Below i listed many reason for why you don’t use dot.tk domains.

1. SEO

SEO[Search Engine Optimization] its key role in any website success, but if you use dot.tk domains for your blog or website search engine website not prioritized your content if you wrote an original content.

Any copycat or content thief get a higher ranking using a top-level domain, and your content gets penalized why? the reason is it’s produced on dot.tk domains.

With dot.tk domains you can’t get a first place in any search engine and having dot.tk domains affect your branding which is important in blogging or internet world.

If you Use dot.tk domains your URL looking short but search engine not cares.

Note: Write quality articles and bit SEO helps you to get the best place in search engines.

2. Advertisement

Nowadays the main reason for starting a blog is making some extra income. This income generates using many ways, but a most popular method applied for Google Adsense.

Google Adsense is a height of advertising, and if you can get the account on it, then you are lucky. But Google Adsense membership for dot.tk domains is like a viewing dream with open eyes.

Your .tk domain made things worst and its extremely hard to get Google Adsense membership using .tk domains.

If you get another advertiser on your .tk website like Chitika then CTR is the real concern.

Many user creates a .tk domains only for spamming and hacking stuff, so the advertiser does not fill your ad spot even you get high-quality traffic because you have .tk domains.

3. Domain Delete

This is a biggest issue if you using .tk domains.

If your website is popular like getting a higher rank in Alexa ranking or get a decent PR [Google Page Rank], then you are in a danger zone and chances of deletion of your domain are high.

Below I am sharing my experience and attach a twitter URL of conversation between me and dot.tk. But they drop my domain without any reason.

4. Personal Experience

@dottk remove tekfu.tk from my account and register for someone else, don’t make any domain from their site.#dottk cheat me……….

When I want to start a blog in August 2010 and the biggest problem is I don’t have enough resource to buy a domain with a credit card and money.

So i decide to try a dot.tk domain and that time I am a newbie to blogging and created a blog using TEKFU.TK.

That was my first successful blog, and it’s reaching 85000 ranks in Alexa.

But after this huge success, I am busy in education and from an advertisement I bought my own domain on 2 January 2012.

So I simply switch my domain but use TEKFU.TK for side projects, At January 2013 i acknowledge my TEKFU.TK is sold to another person.

I contact DOT.TK through twitter and they told me to re-register a domain, and I follow all instruction, but after 2 to 3 month they simply delete my account and all my domains.

Note: My advice to readers if you use dot.tk Then leave it, the reason is if your website is popular than they sell it another person or removed it from your account all traffic which generated by your effort converted into an ads traffic. They sell Ads on your domain or sell like a premium domain.

  1. To Everyone:

To add to what was just said above, you can have a “dot.tk” domain name, and have it for a while, build up traffic and popularity (despite low rankings in search engines like Google and Bing).

Be warned: as soon as the traffic grows into a substantial amount (enough for say; ads to be profitable), they will expire your account (which is in the fine print of the agreement: “without notice, for any reason”).

The next time you visit your website you will instead be greeted by a great wall of ads. Of course, you won’t be seeing ANY of that ad revenue for yourself. Will they give you anything for all your hard work? The answer is: absolutely not.

    To The Author:

You make some good points but you might have a hard time getting people to listen to you if you don’t go back and correct the grammatical errors in your post (connection words like ‘a’ and punctuation are important. Also, capitalization is also quite important.
Also, overuse (or under-use) of words like ‘because’ or starting sentences with them are a big no-no. I am not writing this to make you angry – I thought you might want to do this in order to get more people to read your post. Most people will not read more than a few sentences even if it is good content.
I read this post only because I have had the same thing happen to me with ‘dot.tk’.

    • Shaikh Masood Alam

thanks for your information and according to your suggestion i am trying to improve this post and my other blog post.

  2. Not only is there the problem with search engine ranking but they will revoke domains once they get popular enough and point them towards ad portals.

  3. well all i can say is that the dot tk did’nt work for you, but i use dot tk and rank my website on the first page of google and bing and it was holding number 1 spot

    • Shaikh Masood Alam

Dot.tk cheats me after 2 yrs. My blog ranking well in google and some of my article appears on first page.
If you currently use dot.tk. please switch to own domain.

  4. In the whois database, people are watching for when your domain name will expire, so they can grab your popular domain, and make some money.

It is the same with any domain name, if you forget to renew it, someone else may grab it before you have a chance to re-register it.

I like dot.tk very much. If I forget to renew, then that is my fault, not theirs.

    • Shaikh Masood Alam

True, but my domain not expired when they transfer it to another one and why they transfer it back to me after complaint.
After some day they finally transfer it to some shitty website owner.

  5. Dot.tk just removed all my domain names without a word. Everybody, avoid dot.tk at all cost.

  6. I suggest you guys to buy a .com domain from godaddy or bigrock @99 rs (just google it) and use techelex tutorial to setup wordpress using Openshift by redhat (thats FREE). Believe me its give me best result with minimum money. Now i have 3 blogs on openshift with TLDs Thanks to Shaikh Masood Alam from techelex who guide me lead toward success in blogging

  7. I couldn’t even get on Adsense because google claimed my blog’s content was copied. It isn’t –it’s 100% mine. I’ve even checked various pages to see if anyone else has stolen my content and mine is the only instance of it on the web. Google’s checking algorithm is just biased and doesn’t even check what it claims.

    • Saurav Bhimsaria

The same thing happened with me. Me and my friend are investing so much time to write our own articles and all google says is it doesn’t comply with content policy. Definitely biased!

  8. Hi, I use dot tk and am really happy with them. They did penalise me for the domains that had not a lot of content on them, but that was my fault… I did not realise that I had to put more content on the domains I got from them. Other than that no problems at all. They did advise me if I purchased the domains then the restrictions were lifted, so I did go ahead and purchase the ones that really mattered. Have you purchased the tk domains or are the ones you have still free domains? I would be interested to know.

    • Shaikh Masood Alam

They Seized my domain in 2012 without sending me any notice, and I have plenty of content and getting up to 1000+ hits/day. My problem was I busy in studies and not check my domain for almost one month. Then I found they sell my domain to another buyer without giving me any notice and when I provide them all required document they are not giving me back my domain. So, My Freind, Change your dottk domain to original TLD’s.

  9. .tk has worked fine for me except the fact that when I go back to edit the entire site is gone!

  10. Very good post and I did not realize .tk is such a dishonest registry. I would never use a free domain or hosting as there is a good reason or catch usually!

  11. now can’t register a new domain, and can’t login to the client area, always response HTTP 500 error.

  12. With me they (dot.tk) promised free domains, then after about 6 months, contrary to the fine print when I signed up, which I read in detail, and without telling me, they expired the domain registration and would only give it back for an annual fee. Seem to have been done following a buyout by freenom.

  13. I have to agree that sometimes bad things happens all over the web. I used CO.CC for a long time, and when that goes offline, i had a lot of difficulties .
After that, i had necessity for having domains, and dot.tk helped me a lot, saving time and money, usually for small projects, testing sites, and also for apps, a lot of things .
I use .tk domains, and also .ml domains, and i think this service is been discriminated by advertisement companies and social media companies, this is not nice .
All we know that its a free service, and that people use to register all names possible, imposibilitating other users to use the service .
Dot.Tk has a great platform to all kind of service related to redirection, domain, and its renaming the web for a long time .
I’m sure they make everything to offer us a great service, no spam, no porn, its fast, all kind of configuration avaiable, so i think you should review your concepts .

Only use “FREE” domains/hosting, for tests o demo sites.

If you are trying to build a business or community BE SERIOUS and invest in it, $5 month hosting everywhere, $1 – $9 domains with coupons, dont be lazy

  15. Thanks for this post. I think they can use a free hosting like Blogger with a paid domain in .com or .net

  16. kunal sawalakhe

you saved me from getting a troublesome domain. thanks

  17. It’s always strange to me that when I see articles like this, after I have read the comments etc I always come away wondering which party is in the wrong. Lots of questions asked of the postie but the anwsers are always evasive.
Maybe I am paranoid and he is just training to become a politician?
However I find it hard to accept that even in a worst case scenario, that he was not offered the chance to buy the Domain name, it makes no business sense at all for them not to try to sell it to the existing user!

  18. Matthew J. Garcia

I had a similar problem with dot.tk. I started with my first official domain queer1.tk after being approached to do a collaboration with a German musician and remixer after they found my SoundCloud. I kept the queer1.tk domain for a couple years and when my Alexa rank started rising significantly I had the same account problem. They cancelled my domain name saying I hadn’t renewed and their policy says an unrenewed domain cannot be reregistered ever, but it had actually been sold to somebody else according to a deep Whois search as of recently my account is still open with dot.tk which is part of freenom but my entire account history before 2015 doesn’t exist.

  19. Not only will you not rank using a free domain extension but you will not have any luck getting approved by adsense.

  20. good article Shaikh Masood Alam, thanks for such amazing information. I am going to buy a new .com domain after reading this.

    thanks once again.

  21. Freenom is the culprit behind the whole deal. They let people register these domain names for free and then disconnect the domain conveniently. There’s nothing inherently wrong with .tk, it’s just that if it’s handled by a crooked registrar like Freenom, it gives the whole ccTLD a bad name. I would never choose Freenom and thank god I haven’t paid them one red cent. Those crooks will run the .tk extension into the ground along with .ml, .gq, .cf. They are simply taking advantage of the countries.
